Start Singing or Return to Singing at Trinity on Main this fall! Singing is not just fun but has been shown to improve our wellbeing from our heads to our toes, and we feel it in our souls.  September 5th: Thursday Sing-along Café at 7:30 in  the evening September 8th: Sunday Choir before Church at 9:30 in the morning September 10th: Tuesday Praise Team at 10:00 in the morning

 

My Singing Night is Thursdays and we're going to start again on Thursday, September 5th! Join me at the Sing-along Café in Trinity's Fellowship Room at 7:30. Come a bit early to grab the best comfy chair or a spot on the couch. Have a cup of tea and something sweet. Then, we'll start singing together again.  This is my night to sing. There's no choir, no microphones, no baton, no leading, no blending, and no solos- just everyone singing along to pop songs we all (hopefully, most of us) know with the words on the screen for everyone to see. 

I was so proud of my church, my team and proud of Trinity Singers! We had a wonderful service and celebration and if you missed it, you'll want to watch it on YouTube. Of course the video doesn't quite capture how great it was to be there. The music was fun and the congregation joined us enthusiastically. There was a reporter there who wrote a great article about it. So, check that out too.  The sanctuary was nicely decorated, and then some of the decorations came down to Trinity Hall (the gym) with us for cake and refreshments. The cakes and cupcakes were awesome! I hope you're still singing.  Sing any chance you get. Not just Sundays -and you're maybe spending Sundays away doing fun summer stuff. There will be concerts in parks, free to enjoy. Don't bring a chair. Stand and move your body as you sing along to the songs you know, even if you only know the chorus: it's a chorus, that's what it's for, singing chorally, together.  There will be live music in bars. If the spirit moves you (either the divine one or the liquid one), then move and sing and that way you'll let the band know that they're doing their job well. Sing every chance you get. Dance any chance you get too!

 Besides My Lighthouse, I'm recommending that the Praise Team sing Beloved by Jordan Feliz with Amelia singing the verses solo, so that the words can be heard. Beloved would be an Anthem, while Lighthouse is an inclusive Hymn with the children doing actions. Check out the video and lyrics below. There's another one that the Praise Team loved, called Change My Heart, O God , that we think everyone will want to sing. It's simple and prayerful. I'm reminded of the statement about being Affirming, that we want people to know that we're unlearning prejudice and descrimination to become an inclusive and safe place for everyone. Trinity Choir and Praise Team unite again to lead the congregation with this energetic and fun song: My Lighthouse by Rend Collective. I'll include the official lyric video to learn the song, and the wonderful video of the piano accompaniment with lyrics that I sent in an email to rehearse with. Please don't look at the sheet music anymore. Listen to the song, and sing along, then sing along with the accompaniment only. See how you feel. We'll sing this with lyrics only.  Think pop song. Singing along to the Beatles or John Denver, do you worry about the sheet music? We're singing in unison, so everyone is singing melody, easy-peasy.  The accompaniment will be a little different, and John will be playing the box drum too.  I would like us to stand in front of the congregation for this one, not at the side, and with music stands.
