Sing-along Cafe 2024-09-26

It was a quieter evening, but still wonderful. With only 2 of us there, Thain and I could talk about all kinds of things and sing whatever we wanted. We talked about a performance by the 4 soloists that sang for us a while back. They sang Like Breathing. We Googled it and listened to a few different performances on YouTube and looked at samples of the sheet music. Then, we did the same for You Will Be Found, by the same composers: Benjamin Pasek and Justin Paul. Powerful, meaningful songs from musical theatre. It would take a bit of work to arrange them for our choir and praise team. Maybe a project for me? We’ll see. Our theme was Songs with La-las and other Nonsense, and we can do it again next week. I have 10 hours of music on that list now. We earmarked a couple of songs we’d like to do next week already, and I’m sure people will find songs that we haven’t sung yet, but, we can sing things multiple times if we want. We had fun with some classical la-las, and enjoyed trying to sing

Praise Team Songs from Tuesday, September 17th

Kevin recently sent us an email with recordings of accompaniments to the newest three songs we learned at Praise Team.  Here they are again, in case your email inbox is full of lots of other stuff: Cares Chorus Be Exhalted, O God Make Me a Servant

Sunday, September 22 Trinity Praise Team and Trinity Kids

This Sunday, The Praise Team will be singing My Lighthouse! We're being joined by any Trinity Kids that are there, and we have a cool lamp to hold up that will represent a lighthouse.  If you are in the choir but want to join us, I think it would be wonderful to have a larger Praise Team on Sunday. Join us. We're meeting at 9:30 in the Sanctuary to rehearse. We will stay in the pews for the hymns, but I think it would be best if we all sat together, maybe in the front by the piano. We'll see when we get there. No uniform, but a few of us will be wearing our Trinity T-shirts.

Our theme was Days of the Week , and there were so many fun songs!  I was surprised at how many songs have days of the week in their titles and when I considered Yesterday and Tomrrow as days, well, that added a whole bunch of good music to my playlist.  Here's a link to my Songs with Days of the Week  playlist on Apple Music. There's about 4 and a half hours of music there, so we could potentially do this theme another time.  We met a new friend last night and it was heartwarming to see and hear how happy he was to be singing! Singing when it's not a show, just for fun, familiar songs with words there to share is "easy like Sunday morning". And, tea and carrot cake and banana muffins shared with good people and good conversation make it even more enjoyable.  Here's a selection of the songs we sang and listened to: Rainy Days and Mondays by the Carpenters Manic Monday by the Bangles Monday, Monday by the Mamas and the Papas Saturday Night by the Bay City Ro

Wishing Kevin and his Family a Happy Moon Festival

Thank you for sharing moon cakes with the Praise Team, Kevin! May all your days be as sweet as mooncakes and as bright as the full moon. Kevin was saying that the festival has a romantic story about the moon, so I found this video and I'm sharing it with you.  If you're interested in learning more, there are lots of little videos on YouTube with stories for children about the festival and about moon cakes.

This Sunday is the Welcome Back BBQ after Church!!!

New Time for Sing-along Café 7:00

We're going to try to meet earlier so people can head home earlier. The sun is setting earlier and earlier so 9:30 seems a lot later, very dark indeed. We'll start at 7:00 and aim to end at 8:30. Hopefully, more people will be able to come!

We enjoyed singing about September, School, and Fall again, and the warm weather inspired the addition of Summer songs. We had a couple new people come to sing with us, so it was extra special. We started off with my playlist but ended up going off on tangents. The final tangent had us listening to several songs from a Bridgerton playlist, inspired by Taylor Swift's song You Belong to Me. We loved it, so I've included a video of one of the pop song covers in a scene from the show, which I recommend for its beautiful costumes and scenery too.  Here's a partial list of songs we listened to and sang: See You in September by the Tempos The Boys of Summer byDon Henley Summer of 69 by Brian Adams Summer in the City by the Lovin' Spoonful Cruel Summer by Bananarama and Ace of Base and Taylor Swift Just a Cloud Away by Pharrell Williams Rainy Days and Mondays by the Carpenters Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head by BJ Thomas and by Dionne Warwick Be Thou My Vision by

Our theme was fun! September and School, and Summer too. I'm not going to list all the songs, but you can find them in my Apple Playlist, which you can access here. I had fun making this week's playlist, and we can keep using it for school-themed songs and for summer and fall, and even new beginnings. In fact, we'll use it next week again. We didn't listen to some key songs, so we can do them first (See You in September, She Blinded Me With Science) The fist song, the one that started the list, was September by Earth, Wind and Fire. Later, I found another version which I absolutelty adore. Lots of songs with a school theme came next, and we noticed that most of them had a negative or rebellious tone. School for me was fun and interesting and I loved it. I didn't break rules, I loved them, and thrived among rules and patterns and details. I'm not a rock star. Another thing that stood out in the school theme was love stories, and a focus on the opposite sex (most
