More Singers, Please! Trinity Singers Needed

I hope that 2025 brings Trinity some more singing friends.

Can you help with that? Can you come? You don't have to be there every week, but it's fun. Do you know people who would enjoy singing with the choir and praise team on Sundays? Can you bring them with you?

We sing all kinds of music: traditional hymns (sometimes updated to more inclusive language) and contemporary Christian music from around the world found in our hymn books (Voices United and More Voices), and contemporary Christian music discovered by Kevin in other places.

We have lots of singing in our Sunday services, lots of beautiful and inspiring music. Having a choir lead the congregation is powerful and a long-standing tradition that we want to keep up.

I would love for our Thursday evenings to be bigger too. We sing for fun and fellowship, singing music we hear on the radio (and now on streaming services) arranged on playlists by theme. We sing along with John Denver, Doris Day, the Beatles, Sara McLachlan, Gordon Lightfoot, the Eagles, the Irish Rovers, all kinds of stuff from different eras and various genres. And, we talk about how the music makes us feel and what we think about the themes, memories conjured. If we had a need for a choir rehearsal on a Thursday, I would be happy to divide the Thursday evening into rehearsal and sing-along. Currently, the Tuesday morning and Sunday morning rehearsals seem to be enough.

Praise Team Songs Affirming Celebration Service June 16th

Besides My Lighthouse, I'm recommending that the Praise Team sing Beloved by Jordan Feliz with Amelia singing the verses solo, so that the words can be heard. Beloved would be an Anthem, while Lighthouse is an inclusive Hymn with the children doing actions. Check out the video and lyrics below. There's another one that the Praise Team loved, called Change My Heart, O God , that we think everyone will want to sing. It's simple and prayerful. I'm reminded of the statement about being Affirming, that we want people to know that we're unlearning prejudice and descrimination to become an inclusive and safe place for everyone. Head full of questions, how can you measure up? To deserve affection, to ever be enough for this existence When did it get so hard? Your heart is beating, alive and breathing And there's a reason why you are essential, not accidental And you should realize You are beloved I wanted you to know You are beloved Let it soak into your soul Oh, forg...

Thursday, April 18 Sing-along Café Review

The theme for the evening was: Songs with La-las (and other nonsense: ooh, doo-dah, na-na, scoobie-doobie, bum-ba-bum, hey!). I call all of these little non-word lyrics la-las. They're often my favourite part of a song. Everyone can sing those words, usually. With scat singing, not usually, and with yodeling, not everyone. But, think about the Beatles song Hey Jude. At the end, everyone can sing along with the na-nas and some of us even like to harmonize with them. When my daughter was writing songs, I urged her to put some nonesense la-las in her songs. Don't worry about finding beautiful, powerful words for all the verses, or all the lines of the chorus. Sometimes, the lack of words makes a melody more powerful.  Here's the list of songs we sang and listened to: Can't Get You Out of My Head   by Kylie Minogue Everything   by Michael Bublé Those Were the Days   by Mary Hopkin Hey Jude   by the Beatles Tom's Diner   by Suzanne Vega &DNA De Do Do Do, De ...
