Sing-along Café Thursday, April 16th, 2026

Boy, did we go off theme today! We were talking about all kinds of things, including Canadian things like Mark Carney, Heated Rivalry, Wab Kinew, hockey, diversity, and painted ponies. We talked about people our ages (not old) dying, and how that makes us feel. We need to live well while we can, make a difference where we can. We worried about how it’s sometimes hard to separate art from the artist. We don’t want to support horrible people, but flawed people can create wonderful things.

We saw pieces of our conversations in all of  the songs, and it was, as always surprising and interesting. It was a lovely afternoon, spent in lovely company.

My recipe for apple cake converted to muffins very nicely. As is often the case lately, we talked and sang so much that we didn't have time to do a lot of nibbling. My family will benefit from the leftover apple muffins.

Our Earth and Peace theme developed into a life cycle theme, so I guess we were more focused on the people of the Earth than the Earth itself. Next week, we'll do this theme again, we'll stay with this playlist, and we'll see how our focus changes.

  • Pop Goes the World by Men Without Hats
  • Calypso by John Denver
  • The Circle of Life by Elton John
  • The Circle Game by Joni Mitchell
  • Spinning Wheel by Blood, Sweat & Tears
  • Love Train by the O’Jays and by Anna Kendrick, et al from a Trolls movie
  • Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite by the Beatles
  • Colors by Kira Willey

Singing Together in July and August

I posted this on my YRCC blog, and I think it applies to my Trinity Singers too. While we’re not singing together in July and August, please find opportunities to sing in other places and with other people.  You can always sing in your car and in your kitchen. You can accept all invitations to cottages, camping, and beach days, and do some campfire singing. Or, sing while you paddle around in a lake. Sound carries over water, so have some buddies join you if you’re not comfortable with a solo performance.  Orchestrate some backyard sing-alongs if you can.  Singing outdoors in the summer is an opportunity you don’t want to miss. I’ve enjoyed the free concerts in Aurora and Newmarket in the past. They have ‘tribute bands’ who perform all the hits you know, and you’ll want to sing and dance along. (would be nice if they projected the lyrics for us, because we're used to having those words now) I’ve added these concerts to my YRCC Calendar to encourage my choristers to go. I’...
