Reminder: no singing tonight for Halloween

Halloween Playlist (funny Facebook post)

Hello Singing Friends! I saw this on Facebook and it made me laugh. It was most certainly made by someone of our generation. I think this would be a fun playlist for us to sing!  Happy Halloween!

Halloween is so much fun! We had lots of laughs and some chills and jitters too. In addition to singing along with songs from the Apple Music Halloween Essentials playlist, we watched the whole Thriller video on YouTube. It was scarier and more gruesome than I remembered. Song lyrics surprised us more than usual it seemed. Some of the songs turned us off, and we skipped them. We had lots of good conversation and some cranberry cake and a couple of Halloween chocolates too. It was a lovely evening in lovely company. We will not be meeting on Halloween night, next Thursday, October 31st. Stay tuned for our theme for November 7th (I haven't decided yet, so you can let me know if you have something in mind.) Here are some of the songs we sang and listened to and a link to the playlist we used (we didn't listen to most of those songs, given the time we spent in comfortable conversation and given that we only have an hour and a half). Our theme was Songs with Food , but we talked about everything: families, religion, war, mental health, motherhood, dancing, the 80s, the 50s, strict conformity and fear and/or rejection of anything/anyone different, thrift shopping, … I guess that both food and singing are things that bring people together and inspire conversation, so it makes sense. There's a lot of music on this playlist, so we'll do the Food Theme again.  I didn’t bake but I brought some store-bought cookies, but, I forgot to put them out and didn’t make tea. We were too busy and content with our lovely chatting and songs so it didn’t matter. It was a lovely evening in lovely company. With all that talking, we did manage to sing quite a bit too. Here’s a sample of some of the songs we listened to and sang: Day-O (The Banana Boat Song) by Harry Belafonte  Sandwiches by Fred Penner On Top of Spaghetti by Walk off the Earth and by Tom Glazer Sugar by Maroon 5 Sugar Sugar by The Archies Strawberry Fields Fore

It was another lovely evening in the company of lovely people. We ate banana chocolate-chip muffins and sipped cinnamon spice tea, sang, talked, laughed and wondered at our wonderful world. Our theme of home and family was a good one. There's so much to talk about with families and our roles in them, and what is a family, and how do we feel about home? Here's a selection of the songs we sang and listened to: Home by Michael Bublé Take the Long Way Home by Supertramp Our House by Madness Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd She's Leaving Home by the Beatles For the Beauty of the Earth by Brother K Father and Son by Cat Stevens and by Johnny Cash Loves Me Like a Rock by Paul Simon Good Hands by Kylie Morgan Rise Again by The Rankin Family Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder This next week, October 17th, we'll have fun with a Food theme! Which is also a big part of Thanksgiving, right? I hope to see you all there on Thursday!

It was a lovely evening in lovely company! We were blessed with a still-warm apple and honey cake made by Robin for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Happy New Year! We have so many opportunities to make a new start, to close a door behind us and look with hope into a new and better future. Here is another door opening. Let’s sing even more, and laugh even more starting now. Our la-la theme is so much fun! The things I enjoyed most were: Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance ( Rah, rah-ah-ah-ah;  Roma, roma-ma,  Gaga, ooh-la-la ) and The Oak Ridge Boys’ Elvira ( um-poppa-um-poppa, mow, mow ). But, there were so many fun things to sing in all the songs. And, as always, there were so many surprising lyrics to talk about! We will probably have another Thursday evening on the la-la theme in the future, but next week, we’ll do something else:  Songs of Home and Family. We started this playlist last year, but there are so very many good songs about home and family, so we’ll look at it again now that T
