Sing-along Café Thursday, November 13th, 2025

Last week's theme of Keeping Love Alive was fun and I was thinking of doing that again, but I heard the song I Got You by Devon Cole on the radio and was inspired to add it to my Songs for Comfort and Support (that's a link) playlist, and to share that this week. The playlist ended up being about friendship and people you can count on when you're down, loyal friends, and God. I guess the two lists could be combined. They're about love, devoted and steadfast connection, from both sides: how do I give love and how do I know I am loved?

I felt supported by my sing-along friends. It was so nice having someone else's baking for our nibbles! Thank you, Leslie :-) I had forgotten that Leslie told me she'd bring her pumpkin muffins. I was a bit frazzled yesterday (well, all week, actually) and quickly thawed some apple muffins to bring, and arrived later than I planned, and then didn't make tea. But, everyone was gracious and we had a wonderful afternoon, singing past the hour, and chatting even more outside after. After we finished, I wanted to play one more fun song, I'll Be There by Walk Off the Earth. I love them. Not enough time.

There were some excellent suggestions for songs to look up to add to the list, and we looked up when some songs were released, surprised by how old some of those songs were. I love it when my lists inspire conversation, memories, and lots of great ideas about other songs. One reason I make the lists so long, hours of music, is so that we don't feel tied to a plan, and so I am not making all the decisions.

Next week, I'm not making a list or using one of my lists. We are going to help our friend Deb prepare for the concert she's going to next Friday: Paul McCartney! We're going to have a BEATLES theme! Well, Beatles and Wings, and whatever we find on Paul McCartney that we feel like singing. It will be lots of awesome music. We will use an Apple Music playlists.

Here's a selection of the music we sang and listened to yesterday:

  • Always by Forrest Frank
  • Count on Me by Bruno Mars
  • Don't Give Up (feat. Kate Bush) by Peter Gabriel
  • Dont' Stop Believing by Journey
  • Friendship by Micky Deems, Hal Linden & Eileen Rodgers from (Anything Goes, 1962)
  • Hold Me Now by Thompson Twins
  • I Got You by Devon Cole
  • I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say by Emu Music
  • Lean on Me by Club Nouveau and by Bill Withers
  • Let Me Be There by Elvis Presley
  • Lord, I Need You by Matt Maher
  • Never Gonna Let You Go by Sergio Mendez
  • Stand by Me by Ben E. King
  • Strong by Anne Wilson

Singing Together in July and August

I posted this on my YRCC blog, and I think it applies to my Trinity Singers too. While we’re not singing together in July and August, please find opportunities to sing in other places and with other people.  You can always sing in your car and in your kitchen. You can accept all invitations to cottages, camping, and beach days, and do some campfire singing. Or, sing while you paddle around in a lake. Sound carries over water, so have some buddies join you if you’re not comfortable with a solo performance.  Orchestrate some backyard sing-alongs if you can.  Singing outdoors in the summer is an opportunity you don’t want to miss. I’ve enjoyed the free concerts in Aurora and Newmarket in the past. They have ‘tribute bands’ who perform all the hits you know, and you’ll want to sing and dance along. (would be nice if they projected the lyrics for us, because we're used to having those words now) I’ve added these concerts to my YRCC Calendar to encourage my choristers to go. I’...

TOMORROW! Pride Festival, Trans March, Pride Parade

June 5th, 2025 Sing-along Café is Outdoors!

We're going to be outside, singing along with a cover band, Telltale Sounds, at the 2025 Newmarket Music Series Lineup Launch Party! Then, we'll sing and dance to Glenn Marais and the Mojo Train!  I think we'll want to bring lawn chairs, and maybe a snack and a beverage. There will be a food truck there if you want to get something fun.  We are asked to bring a Food Bank Donation. We'll head down together on foot from the Park Street entrance at 6:15. Hopefully that will be early enough to get parking behind the church and get a spot to sit at Riverwalk Commons.  We'll walk across Main Street, down the stairs to the parking lot, and across towards the community centre, unless some of us have issues with stairs, then we'll go down the ramp at the next block that ends up just behind the community centre.  Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather (should be perfect, not too warm, not too cool). I'm a big fan of these free summer concerts. Can't wait...
